FreeWay’s Belief Proclamation

These are the central beliefs of our faith that we affirm as a church body

More than two thousand years ago God through Jesus asked a question that transformed the world forever.

In Matthew 16:13, Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do men say that I am?” Peter boldly proclaimed the correct answer, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” (Matt. 16:16). Jesus replied in Matthew 16:18 (ISV), “. . . upon this rock I will build my congregation and the powers of hell will not conquer it.”

FreeWay’s beliefs rest on this divine truth. God desired to have fellowship with us, so He created man in His image. Man failed to obey God, so someone had to pay for man’s sin (John 3:16) and display His grace (Romans 5:8).

We believe the eternal, triune God, that has existed perpetually as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:14, Matthew 3:16), sent Jesus, his only son, so we could live in right standing with God.

In order to maintain fellowship with man, God inspired men to write the Holy Scriptures.

This book would personify Jesus, and the Bible tells us in John 1:14 that “. . . the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” The Bible also trains us in righteousness (2 Tim. 3:16), enabling us to thrive in “restored relationship” with Him (2 Corinthians 5:19).

Once we accept Christ, we believe there are characteristics that should mark us as a Christian.

Transformation, with distinct changes in our conduct, should be visible as we put to death our old life (2 Corinthians 5:1) and walk in new life. (Galatians 2:20). This transformation is accompanied by a new purpose—to live a “spirit filled life” (Romans 8:2) derived from the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4) that empowers us to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22, 1 Corinthians 12:1- 11).

We eagerly share our new life (James 5:20) and miracles we witness, such as divine healing (James 5:14-16) and give generous contributions to our local church. (Malachi 3:10; 2 Corinthians 9:7).

We practice certain sacraments, such as baptism by immersion (Matthew 28:19) and communion (commemoration of the Lord’s supper via symbolic bread and grape juice) (1 Corinthians 11:24-25).

We believe every person has eternal life.

The question is, will they spend it in paradise (John 14:1-3, Revelation 7:15-17) or torment (Revelation 20:10, 15). God will return to earth for a time of final judgment (1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17, 2 Corinthians 5:10).

We believe Christians should be an active member of a local church (Acts 16:5) and serve one another in love (Hebrews 10:25).

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
